Hey, the Gray Ghost here, w the first of a series of
periodic columns, interviews, and thoughts and opinions on one of the
most talked about promotions in New England , Power and Glory Wrestling.
I’m calling this Ghostly Haunting. For my first column, I thought Id
take a look at “Pretty Boy” Joey Bricco and his strange journey down the
Power and Glory highway in 2007
If you recall, Joey first appeared on Power and Glory’s
debut show as Brian Anthony’s little lackey. Whatever the Green man and
Northeast Champ wanted, Bricco followed him around like a lovesick
puppy. He even bought Brian birthday presents. But, Anthony berated him
for some of the gifts, and such. Why Joey would put up with this, and
would he? Made for some thought indeed.
"Trip to
Six Flags" Video
After enduring this, things got better as our strange
little couple bonded at six flags. It was like two best friends, soul
mates, or whatever, bonding. Such a nauseatingly touching scene. But,
Joey didn’t have the evil side that Brian did, and tried to stop Brian
during a heinous attack on Anthony and Chris Battle. Soon, Brian would
finally rid himself of a guy he probably felt was just trying to ride
his coattails, and who he treated like garbage.
Joey returned all by himself to the adulation of the
fans. It seemed he had his head straight, w the fans support, and all.
He would prove the he was his own man, to himself, to Brian and to the
fans. But, it was not to be. The nearly psychotic Anthony basically
destroyed Poor Joey. At least now, we knew it was over for sure, and
Joey would recover, and be able to make a name for himself on his own in
PGW
Ahead to Battlefield Fairfield . The chance Joey was
looking for, a number one contender match for Brian’s Northeast Title.
Sadly for Joey, he went out early, and dejectedly went to the back. BUT,
as Brian took on Chris Battle for the NE title, Joey suddenly appeared,
and after threatening to attack Brian, he turned his attention to
Battle, laying him out w a steel chair, helping Brian Retain the NE
title. My? Is, WHY????. Is there something we don’t know going on here,
financially or otherwise w Brian and Bricco? Does Joey have to be a
lackey or can he ever stand on his own?
Brian Anthony v. Joey Bricco Hype Video
Flash ahead to the Fight before Christmas event held
December 8. We got to see a “happy go lucky “ Elf Joey Bricco bearing
gifts, but again, after losing a hard fought falls count anywhere match
to Chris Battle, Bricco was out for support for Brian Anthony. Brian
seemed more concerned about feeding his ego, and saving his title, than
for Joey’s welfare. Bricco seems to be a lost soul, drifting through PGW,
maybe hoping for something, that may never come. Maybe HE wants to be
Northeast champion? Well, despite Brian YET AGAIN treating him like
nothing but a second class citizen so to speak, Bricco’s distraction of
the ref helped Brian get a tainted win and retain the CCW Northeast
belt. Now, Joey has to face the wrath of Jose Perez soon, and that is
not in a good spot to be in. Why this “hero worship” still w Bricco and
Brian. Is there an ulterior motive, or a goal, or is it just “hero
worship”. Well, for the fans of Power and Glory Wrestling, The Ghost
recently confronted Bricco in this exclusive mini interview to try and
get to the bottom of this situation, and see what Joey is thinking
concerning all of this….
Can you
explain to the readers how you came to be in Brian's corner back at
PGW's debut show?
Well Ghost, me and Brian go way back to before he was the
great and honorable CCW Northeast Champion that he is today. I believe
it was May of 2006. Some of you might remember I had a match against Mr.
Anthony for CCW at 'Naugatuck Knockout' in which he beat pinned me with
his patented 'Insomnia' finishing move. That was the first time Brian
and I had ever crossed paths with one another. And while the match
itself wasn't exactly a squash, I was very impressed with Brian's skills
in the ring and soon found myself watching any and all Brian Anthony
footage I could get my hands on. It wasn't long before I realized that
if I wanted to get to the top I needed to align myself with Brian
Anthony in some capacity. Brian and I soon became good friends with one
another and there was an instant plutonic connection between the two of
us. When PGW officials got a hold of us last year about putting a show
together, it was a no brainer for me and Brian that we should be aligned
with each other.
Right away,
Brian treated you like nothing more than a dog he could kick to the
curb, by berating you at the birthday party, yet you stuck w/ him, why
is that?
Treating me like a
dog that he could kick to the curb is a little harsh I'd say. But
nonetheless I understand where you're coming from and believe me, I get
this question asked ten times a day by numerous PGW fans who have
somehow gotten a hold of my contact information. So why did I stick with
Brian you ask? Well I'll tell you. It's very simple really. It's all
about paying your dues. You see, Brian has been on a role for quite some
time now and even though we had become good friends in months prior, he
wanted to test my loyalty to him and find out exactly how much I really
wanted to be aligned with someone of his flawless stature.
You two
seemed to have a lot of fun together, like at six flags and stuff. Now,
he then threw you out, and even beat you into submission at a match.
What feelings did you have at that time about your relationship w/
Brian?
I had been screwing
up noticeably in situations where Brian and I couldn't afford to have
that happen. First, I got pinned in our tag match against Chris and
Anthony Battle, and then one month after that I accidentally cost him a
win over Chris Battle in a one-on-one bout. When Brian turned on me, all
he was trying to do was motivate me to do better and be more focused
when it came to helping our side pick up the wins. Believe me when I
tell you that what Brian did to me last September hurt him more than it
hurt me. He didn't want to have to put me through that kind of
punishment but he knew it was the only option. And looking back on it
now, I'm glad he did it.
Recently, you
came back to his side, and helped Brian cheat to retain the NE title to
victories over Both Chris Battle and Jose Perez, yet Brian never seems
to be there for you. Explain why you returned to his side yet
again please.
After our match together in September where he 'beat me
into submission' as you so graciously categorize it, I knew I had only
two options really. On one hand, I could keep a grudge with what Brian
had done to me and continue to seek revenge on him. Or on the other
hand, I could read between the lines, realize what he did was for my own
good, and once again align myself with Brian as a new, more focused, and
stronger Joey Bricco. I don't think I need to go into which choice I
chose to go with. And while Brian may
not always be there for me when it comes to in the ring, I can assure
you that he has always got my back for personal matters that take place
outside of the ring. And to me, that is something that is worth so much
more.
Finally for now, Joey, how do you feel you can
handle an angry Jose Perez, especially after what he did to Brian at The
Fight before Christmas. There could be
pain, and a lot of suffering. Can you stand on your own, or are you
looking for help from Brian, and what goals do you have in 08 in PGW?
As far as Mr. 'East
Coast Intensity' is concerned, I am not worried one bit. The only thing
Jose Perez has in his repertoire are his chops. Brian and I have been
brainstorming about ways to avoid getting hit by them. As you can
probably imagine after seeing his match against Jose, Brian is now quite
the expert on Jose's chops. I am not about to give away what ideas we
have been coming up with but take my word for it, Jose Perez has got
another thing coming if he thinks that his match with me is going to be
a walk in the park. Now then, what are Joey Bricco's goals in 2008? Well
of course a shot at the PGW Title somewhere down the line is my main
goal. But next to that, I have taken it upon myself to date every single
one of my past opponent's sisters before 2008 is over. And I've already
got a few under my belt, whether they are aware of it or not.
